What Would Warren Do?

December 20, 2018

With market volatility dominating the headlines, many investors are looking for advice on how to proceed given the tumultuous climate. In his 2017 shareholder letter, Warren Buffet suggested that you consider these lines from the classic poem, “If-“ by Rudyard Kipling:

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs…

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting…

If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim…

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you…

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it.

For those who do not hold degrees in classic literature, Buffet is citing the poem to remind us that it’s important to keep a cool head even when those around you are panicking. Stick to your investment strategy and remember that downturns are a normal part of market cycles.

Happy Holidays!
