Thinking About Retirement?

June 19, 2018

Whether you are approaching retirement age or just thinking about the future, you should consider a few basic steps to start the conversation about retirement savings.

  1. The first thing to do is to write down your biggest financial goals and how you want to prioritize them. Ask yourself questions and create a priority list. For example, when do you want to retire? What kind of a lifestyle do you want to have?
  2. If you are going to seek the advice of a financial advisor, make up a list of questions for when you meet with them. This way you make the best use of your time and their experience. The CFP® board has a great set of questions to ask an advisor which you can access here.
  3. American Funds put out this resource to help people prepare for a meeting with an advisor, and I encourage you to take a look at it.
  4. Be sure to gather any necessary documents to bring to your meeting. They won’t be able to get into specifics without an accurate picture of your financial situation.

Cheers!
