Tax season is upon us and for people who own homes in multiple states, this means meeting and proving residency requirements. Luckily for us, modern technology can alleviate the hassle of having to manually catalog your days spent in each state. There are a couple of smartphone apps out there which use your phone’s GPS to keep track of your travel. One of these apps is called Taxbird and the app records how many days you have left in each state to be considered a resident, and notifies you when you reach that threshold. It also generates residency reports which can be used in the event of an audit. Another app available is called Taxday, which offers some additional features for those who often find themselves on the road for business.
